Why climatic tests are needed to assess products and materials

What are climatic tests?

Climatic tests are processes that put a product or material through a range of environmental conditions such as extreme temperature, humidity, and pressures, to determine how well the product or materials can withstand different environments. This is performed not only to ensure compliance with any relevant regulatory standards, but also to determine the reliability of a product and its potential longevity.

Climate tests subject products and materials to the potential everyday stresses and strains a product will undergo on the market. These products can vary from ammunition and technical devices, or composite materials such as epoxy resin and much more.

Why are climatic tests required?

Environmental conditions can greatly affect the quality of pretty much everything. For example, all materials and products have a minimum and maximum temperature they can withstand, climate tests just discover at which point product quality will be affected by these potential environmental conditions. Climatic tests simulate the life cycle conditions that a product may be faced with and determines whether the product can perform in its intended environments.

Benefits of climatic testing

Climatic tests are often a regulatory requirement in industries such as military, aerospace and others when bringing components to market. Tests are an essential part of research and development, demonstrating that a product is safe and reliable for the end user. They also benefit the manufacturer because through climatic testing, you can identify specific causes for failure and ensure these can be avoided, reducing liability and improving overall product quality.

Our climatic tests

At Withnell Sensors, we can perform incredibly precise climatic tests due to our expert equipment and highly knowledgeable staff. Experimenting with either the temperature, humidity, or both in unison to assess your products performance. We perform climate tests over a temperature range of – 40 to + 180°C and 10 to 95% humidity. Overall temperature stability is approximately ±0.5°C with a temperature uniformity of less than 1.5°C, ensuring highly accurate conditions for your goods. We can also offer either constant, or temperature cycling testing on your products and materials. Further to this we also distribute testing chambers for in house testing, so enquire today to find out more about our solutions!
