Measurement Matters: Why choose a UKAS temperature data logger calibration?

What is calibration?

Calibration is the testing of equipment (unit under test) by comparison of its measurements with a standard of known accuracy (reference standard). Our reference standard would ideally be more accurate than the unit under test and have its own calibration certificate which can be traced back through an unbroken chain of calibrated standards to an appropriate standard held by a National Laboratory. In the UK, this is the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).

Why calibrate?

Calibration delivers confidence in the accuracy of your measurement equipment. Ensuring the accuracy of a process that utilises your test equipment can be critical. Even slight variances in some measurements can have significant impacts on the quality or safety of an output.

How often should my equipment be calibrated?

Calibration intervals for your test equipment will be dependent on your quality system requirements and any specifications or standards applicable to your process, in some industries a calibration interval is recommended by the manufacturer, the most common frequency of calibration is annually.

Why should I use a UKAS accredited laboratory?

The accuracy and expertise of a UKAS calibration for data loggers is a bespoke service that only a small handful of calibration providers in the UK can offer. We are proud to offer this to our customers. To meet our aim of delivering the best possible calibrations for our customers, we have invested heavily in the highest specification of equipment to ensure optimal stability, repeatability and the best possible results. Our calibration team are experts in the field and intensively trained meaning you can trust them to provide the highest quality of service and support.

A UKAS data logger calibration offers many benefits over a standard 'traceable' calibration. Only a UKAS accredited calibration lab can offer you UKAS data logger calibration, our laboratory number is 4595 and you can find a copy of our UKAS schedule of accreditation on our UKAS calibration page. As we see many of our customers requesting this service more and more, we have tried to explain some of the key benefits of a UKAS calibration below.

Minimising risk

Risk can never be obsolete, however, employing the services of a UKAS accredited laboratory means choosing a technically competent laboratory which minimises the risk of producing of supplying a faulty product.

Cost Reduction

Material and product testing can be costly and time consuming, even when they are done correctly the first time. If not done correctly, re-testing can be even higher in cost and time consumption, if the product has failed to meet specifications or expectations.

Demonstrate credibility

A UKAS accredited laboratory is able to demonstrate a full audit trail for the calibration, can call upon best practice within its sector and will only use the services of trained and experienced evaluators.

Protect your reputation

A clients’ reassurance in your product will improve if it has been thoroughly evaluated by an independent, competent laboratory. Customers are increasingly relying on independent evidence, rather than simply accepting a supplier’s word that the product is fit for purpose.

Defend against litigation

The use of a UKAS accredited laboratory is a powerful demonstration that you have exercised all due diligence in the selection and appointment of a supplier. You can also be held liable for any failure of your product, particularly if it involves public safety or financial loss to a client.

Quality assurance

An accredited calibration laboratory must not only demonstrate technical competency but will also have implemented an effect quality management system. The QMS will influence the entire organisation and is a pre-requisite for business-to-business relationships.
